‘National Treasure’ TV Series In Development For Disney+

Published on May 8, 2020.

There’s another national treasure to dig up! However, this time, the treasure won’t be found by Nicolas Cage.

Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced two National Treasure movies, revealed to Collider in an interview that a TV series based on the history-hunting franchise is in development at Disney+ with a young cast. Entertainment Weekly confirmed the validity of the new project, while Bruckheimer also promised that he is still working on National Treasure 3.

“We’re certainly working on one for streaming and we’re also working on one for the big screen,” the producer told Collider. “So, hopefully, they’ll both come together and we’ll bring you another National Treasure, but they’re both very active.”

The National Treasure film franchise stars Cage as Benjamin Franklin Gates, a historian, self-taught cryptologist, and heist-er who hunted for long-lost treasure through clues found in American historical artifacts. National Treasure 3 has been teased for a while now but has never secured an official green light for the project.

Bruckerheiemer described the new National Treasure Disney+ TV series will follow “the same concept” as the films, but with “a much younger cast.”

“The television version is in process,” he said. “We have, I think, a pilot script done and an outline of the future episodes.” Bruckheimer went on to elaborate that National Treasure 3 is currently being written with “the same cast” as the previous films did.
