Nick Cannon Officially Files For Divorce From Mariah Carey

Although Mariah Carey, 44, and Nick Cannon, 34, have been separated for a while now, neither one was rushing to the courthouse for divorce but it seems Cannon has finally filed.

Turns out that Cannon quietly filed for divorce from Carey after six years of marriage on December 12, 2014 according to TMZ.

Looking back, the timing coincides with dramatics involving the pop diva after she was more than three hours late to the Rockefeller Center tree lighting ceremony on December 2 and at the time witnesses reported that she was late because she was on the phone with lawyers discussing divorce proceedings and property settlement.

Carey and Cannon seemed like an odd couple from the beginning with him being known as a laid back funny-man and her as a high-maintenance diva, not to mention a ten year age gap, however the two were married in April 2008 and Carey gave birth to their twins, Monroe and Moroccan in April 2011.

There was much speculation about the couple’s separation before Cannon finally confirmed the two were living apart when he stated that, “we have been living in separate houses for a few months.”

While it seemed to be turning into a nasty separation after Carey seemingly blasted her ex in lyrics during a performance and Cannon promptly had a giant “MARIAH” tattoo covered up, however the two remain adamant that they are staying friendly for the best interest of their children.

“It’s truly just staying focused on family and what’s right and getting through these times and just doing what’s right for the kids,” Cannon stated.

The news comes one day after Carey announced what is sure to be a very lucrative residency deal at Caesar’s Palace in Vegas.
