Oprah Responds to Getting Sued by 86 Year Old Nuclear Physicist
Published on May 16, 2014. Updated October 15, 2014Oprah was recently sued by an 86 year old nuclear physicist for a land purchase in Colorado. Her reaction? “For realz, yo?” OK. No. Oprah, didn’t regulate. She was much more Oprah in her response–much kinder, and diplomatic.
People in Colorado take their public land use seriously. They appreciate, and flock to their favorite trails, lays of land and mountains for everything from spiritual to physical renewal. Oprah, in all likelihood, recently purchased a lay of 66 acres near Telluride, and within her purchase, there are trails that have always been opened for public passage. Now, this land has been marked as “private property.”
It really didn’t matter that Oprah purchased the land, someone was destined to sue. An 86 year old local took the first crack, and it surprises me that the individual looked to sue Oprah the owner, as opposed to the Real Estate company that sold the property in the first place. It would seem to me that if land is designated as fair and public use by a government entity, it would be impossible to be sold as part of a private plot–but stranger things have happened.
This isn’t Oprah’s first time being sued, and she lets her all-star legal team handle those messes. Frivolous suits such as this are easily solved, and Oprah has remained calm in the wake of her land purchase. She hopes that both parties can come to an understanding. Who’s to say what that means: “We can both use it,” or “Tough rocks, pal, I’m Oprah, and you need to stay off my land.”
