Patricia Arquette Made Less Than Her Dog Walker For “Boyhood”

Without a doubt the Richard Linklater film Boyhood has had surprising success so far in awards season while other much buzzed about films, actors and actresses have been left out completely.

While Patricia Arquette, 46, just nabbed a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in the film and was just nominated for an Oscar for the same award, the actress admitted that the film which took 12 years to complete was not a huge money maker for her.

On Monday January 12, the day after she won her award, she told WENN, “It’s important to me as an actor to be able to make a living [but] I’m going to tell you something. I paid more money to my babysitter and my dog walker than I made on Boyhood.”

While she didn’t reveal how much she made on the film, Boyhood has already made $43.5 million worldwide, far more than the reported $4 million it took to make the film.

She also noted that the success has also shocked everyone involved in the making of the movie, “We didn’t even know if people would even accept this movie, and then to find, at first, that people were moved by the movie. Winning totally blew our minds. I’m so happy for Rick [Linklater] and so happy for the producers, because they gave four million dollars. They gambled on a movie with no safety net, no contracts past seven years…You could’ve ended up with nothing.”

Along with Patricia Arquette’s Golden Globe, the film also won for Best Director and Best Motion Picture at Sunday’s award show.

Boyhood is up again for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor (Ethan Hawke) at the 87th Annual Academy Awards on February 22.
