Sam Smith Sweeps Mobo Awards 2014
Published on October 23, 2014.Sam Smith was the big winner at the Mobo Awards, taking home four gongs.
The 22 year-old soul singer from London took home Best Male Artist, Best Album, Best R&B Artist and Best Song.
Sam’s debut album In The Lonely Hour, which hit #1 in the UK, has skyrocketed him to success with the hits “Stay With Me” and “Lay Me Down”.
“This is truly a dream come true,” Sam said as he accepted the Mobo Awards. “It feels amazing. I hardly ever win awards and I never got awards in school for anything so it is really surreal for me to have five in one day. I don’t know where I’ll put them all. I need a cabinet. Well actually I need a house big enough for a cabinet.”
He dedicated his awards to his fans, in addition to the people who helped him write the album “and acted as my personal therapist”.
The Mobos were set up in 1996 to celebrate music of black origin. They’re voted on 50% by fans and 50% by a Panel of Specialists.
Other winners of the evening included Other winners of the evening included Ella Eyre, who was named Best Newcomer and MC Stormzy, who took the prize for Best Grime artist. Jessie J was named Best Female Artist.
