Selena Gomez Opens Up About Lupus Diagnosis, Undergoing ChemotherapyPublished on October 8, 2015.
Pop singer Selena Gomez has recently released new music after a momentary break from the spotlight and in a recent interview with Billboard magazine she opened up about what was really going on during that break.
The 23-year-old opened up for the first time ever about being diagnosed with lupus and revealed she underwent some serious treatment afterwards in order to deal with the illness. “I was diagnosed with lupus, and I’ve been through chemotherapy. I could’ve had a stroke.”
She also commented on the fact that she chose to keep silent about what was really going on, something that wasn’t easy as tabloids and social media users were quick to make assumptions about why she was on hiatus, including rumors about drug addiction. “I wanted so badly to say, ‘You guys gave no idea. I’m in chemotherapy. You’re a–holes.’ I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again.”
Gomez went on to explain that no matter what she does, or how she acts she feels constantly scrutinized and used that to fuel her most recent work,. “I’m so f–king nice to everybody, and everyone is so vile to me. I’ve been working since I was 7. I’ve been a UNICEF ambassador since I was 17. It’s so disappointing that I’ve become a tabloid story. The hate motivated me,” she said.
