Soleil Moon Frye Rediscovers Her “Punky Power” In New Teaser For ‘Punky Brewster’ Reboot

Published on April 16, 2020.

Three decades later, Soleil Moon Frye is rediscovering her Punky Power!

This week, Peacock released the first teaser trailer for the Punky Brewster sequel series, the show that turned Frye into a household name in the ’80s. The original run of Punky Brewster premiered on NBC in 1984 and followed the adventures of a young orphan girl named Penelope “Punky” Brewster (Frye) and her adoptive father Henry (George Gayness).

Frye will reprise the role of Brewster, who is now a single mom of three. Also, Freddie Prinze Jr. will return to the reboot in the role of Brewster’s ex-husband Travis.

“Good to see you, Punky Brewster,” Prinze tells Frye in the teaser, but his tone of voice in clip gives off the impression that things may not be over between the former on-screen lovebirds.

Frye’s character stood out from the crowd, not just for her spunky attitude but also for her unique fashion sense. Brewster inspired girls to wear mismatched shoes and other accessories–a tradition that is making a comeback again!

“Mom, you put on two different shoes,” one of Brewster’s daughters says in the teaser clip.

Brewster quips, “Haven’t done that in a while! Still works.”

Brewster’s family also has a golden retriever in the house, much like Punky’s best friend Brandon from the original series.

No official release date for the Punky Brewster reboot has been announced yet, but Peacock told Entertainment Weekly that the show will debut some time in 2020.
