The Funny Story Behind Ed O’Neill And Britney Spears’ Goofy Photo
Published on June 14, 2016.If you’re a fan of Britney Spears on Twitter, you probably saw the above photo floating around online this March. And you may wonder why her pose with Modern Family’s Ed O’Neill looks a little…awkward.
As it turns out, O’Neill had no idea he was in the company of the pop star – he thought she was just another fan! On yesterday’s episode of The Ellen Show, O’Neill told the host the story behind the goofy photo.
“I was at LAX. I was flying alone to Hawaii. I was waiting for my flight to board,” he said on the show. “They told me the flight was boarding and I picked up that little ‘Modern Family’ hat. I saw a woman approaching me so I just flopped it on, I was leaving.”
“She came up and said ‘Oh, Mr. O’Neill I love ‘Modern Family.’ You’re my favorite on the show,'” he said. Spears asked O’Neill if they could take a picture together. “[She] couldn’t have been nicer. So I said, ‘Sure, fine, ok. Sit on this.’ So she sat there and we took it and I said, ‘Have a nice trip, I’m going’ and I left. The next day my manager texts me and goes ‘What is this? 53,000 likes. It’s Britney Spears!'”
O’Neill called up Spears’ manager to apologize and explain the situation. You can watch him recall the funny incident in the video below:
