‘The Walking Dead’ Says Goodbye To Star Danai Gurira In Latest Episode

The Walking Dead officially said goodbye to Danai Gurira and her character Michonne in the latest AMC episode.

During Michonne’s final episode, Virgil (Kevin Carroll) locked her in a cell, and she began to hallucinate how different her life could have been if she didn’t save Andrea (Laurie Holden). The hallucination journey is a dark one that includes many familiar faces from the show – including Rick (Andrew Lincoln), Gleen (Steven Yeun), Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan).

In the nightmare, Michonne joined forces with Negan (Jefferey Dean Morgan). In the scene that originally featured Negan eliminating Glenn and Abraham, Michonne then gets rid of Lucille herself. Later in the nightmare, she’s then shot with an arrow by Daryl (Norman Reedus) and is finally killed by Rick’s gunshot.

In the end, Michonne escaped the cell and searched an abandoned boat for weapons. However, she found something more useful: Rick’s boots and a cellphone that had Rick’s name carved into it, as well as a drawing of her and Carl (Chandler Riggs). With all these items, Michonne then told Judith – via a walkie talkie – that there’s a chance “the brave man” is alive. Judith says to her that she must go and try to locate him because maybe he needs her more than they do.

With that, Michonne leaves. She then finds a couple struggling and begging for her help because “they won’t wait for us.” When she asked who “they” are, the couple pointed ahead, and a militia-looking group is seen. Michonne quickly flashbacked to Rick and Carl, who decided to help her in season three, and agrees to help the couple.

In July 2019, Gurira revealed that she was leaving the show at San Diego Comic-Con.

“I can confirm that this is the last season. I will be leaving. I would just like to say that this has been one of the purest joys of my life, to play this role,” she said at the time. “I am very, very thankful for the experience I’ve had in ways I can’t even express right now.”
