More than a month after the sudden and tragic passing of beloved soap opera star Kristoff St. John, his cause of death has been revealed.
According to online coroner records from the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, the Young and the Restless star passed away from heart disease and an accidental alcohol overdose. Officially the coroner’s office listed St. John’s death as caused by “hypertrophic heart disease… and effects of ethanol.” His death was classified as accidental.
As previously reported, St. John was only 52 when he passed away at his home on February 3, 2019. An autopsy was completed one day later, but the cause of his death was deferred by the Los Angeles County Coroner until an “additional investigation” was finished.
After the news of his passing, CBS Television Network and Sony Pictures Television released a joint statement in honor of the man who had portrayed Neil Winters on the hit soap since 1991. “The news of Kristoff St. John’s passing is heartbreaking. He was a very talented actor and an even better person. For those of us who were fortunate enough to work with him on The Young and the Restless for the last 27 years, he was a beloved friend whose smile and infectious laugh made every day on set a joy and made audiences love him. On behalf of the Y&R cast and crew, CBS and Sony Pictures Television, we offer our heartfelt sympathy to his family and loved ones, especially his two daughters, Paris and Lola.”
Earlier this month, Russian model Kseniya Mikhaleva revealed she would not be able to attend his funeral because of issues with her visa. Several weeks ago I applied for an ’emergency’ visa for the funeral to say goodbye my fiancé and beloved,” she wrote on Instagram. “The reply from the Embassy was ‘No’. My heart is broken.”
Shortly after his passing, CBS revealed that they would be airing a special storyline in early spring to honor St. John and Neil Winters.
“The Young and the Restless will forever value the legacy of Kristoff St. John in his portrayal of Neil Winters,” the network said in a statement. “Beginning in late April, Y&R will feature a storyline that pays tribute to both Kristoff and his character.”
