In the 1970s being a “sex symbol” meant something very different than what it does today, but it was the beginning of tight pants and low cut shirts. This decade saw a lot of stunning women make their way on to both the small and big screen, many of which are still considered Hollywood’s iconic beauties. From Bond girls to blockbuster stars, these women were not only beautiful but had a wide array of talents to match and they quickly became the A-list, dominating the spotlight. Many had careers spanning several decades, but some of their biggest and most recognizable works all happened in the ’70s.

12. Jessica Lange

Right now, Jessica Lange is best known for her roles in American Horror Story, but it all started back in 1976 when she made her acting debut in King Kong as Dwan. Her debut did not go unnoticed. In fact, it acknowledged what a big star she would become as she won the Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year for the role. Then in 1979 she starred in All That Jazz as the Angel of Death, a role that was written specifically for her.

11. Mary Tyler Moore

Mary Tyler Moore had a successful career in the ’60s before making herself a household name with The Mary Tyler Moore Show, which ran from 1970-1977. The show launched Moore to meteoric fame and she continued to boost herself appearing in Rhoda and headlining The Mary Tyler Moore Hour in 1979.

10. Diane Keaton

Actress Diane Keaton is still a very well known name in Hollywood today and continues to act in many films and shows; however, her storied career began in the ’70s. After a few small roles, she hit landed a big role in the 1972 film The Godfather as Kay Adams, the wife of Michael Corleone. In 1978, she won the Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role for the 1977 film Annie Hall.

9. Jane Seymour

Jane Seymour continues to be a well known name in the entertainment industry and her big break came in 1973 when she became one of the many infamous “Bond Girls.” Seymour starred as Solitaire opposite Roger Moore as James Bond in ’73’s Live and Let Die. With the Bond Girls role being so significant in terms of the hottest women of the time, Seymour really made a name for herself having only begun her acting career in 1969.

8. Faye Dunaway

Faye Dunaway has added a lot of acting credits to her name over the years and, after getting her career started in the ’60s, she hit her full stride in the ’70s. She had a classic look, but it did not get her stuck in a typecast role and, as a result, she was able to play a wide array of characters throughout the years, appearing in The Three Musketeers, Chinatown, The Towering Inferno, Three Days of Condor and Network all in the ’70s alone.

7. Lynda Carter

Soon, the world will be introduced to a new Wonder Woman as the superhero genre continues to expand, but back in the ’70s, Lynda Carter became one of the best known actresses thanks to her role as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman in the Wonder Woman TV series. The big hair, and little costume made her a sex symbol and, although she continued acting, nothing would ever match the fame she reached while portraying Wonder Woman from 1975-1979.

6. Anjelica Huston

Anjelica Huston was destined for the spotlight and got her start in the late ’60s and ’70s thanks to her father John Huston. Her natural beauty and statuesque figure made her a very recognziable celeberity and commanding figure, and after getting her start in the ’70s including an uncredited role in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, she will always be best known for her role as Morticia Addams in the 1991 film The Addams Family.

5. Carrie Fisher

Carrie Fisher has 87 acting credits to her name, but it took only one to deem her one of the most recognizable and hottest female celeberities of the ’70s. In 1977 Carrie Fisher landed the iconic role of Princess Leia Organa in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope and became the celebrity crush of millions around the world as the star of the world’s biggest science-fiction franchise.

4. Olivia Newton-John

It only took one role for Olivia Newton-John to be deemed one of the hottest women in ’70s films as she was already recognized as a phenemoneal singer. After the success of her singles like “Please Mr. Please” and “Come on Over,” Newton-John was cast in the classic and beloved musical Grease. She was gorgeous, could act and sing, all of which landed her as one of the biggest names of the ’70s.

3. Raquel Welch

Raquel Welch became an instant sex symbol after appearing in the 1966 film One Million Years B.C. and her status was cemented in the ’70s with her own TV special with Tom Jones called Raquel! She also starred in the 1973 film The Three Musketeers and had a small part in the popular show Mork & Mindy.

2. Farrah Fawcett

Farrah Fawcett was the “It” girl of the ’70s as she simple oozed sex appeal with her model body and flowing blonde hair. The decade was huge for her career — she had roles in The Partridge Family, The Six Million Dollar Man and Starsky and Hutch before starring in 1976’s Logan’s Run. Of course, she was always best recognized as Jill Munroe in Charlie’s Angels from 1976-1980.

1. Goldie Hawn

Goldie Hawn is as stunning as ever and her impressive genes have been passed on to her beautiful children, Kate and Oliver Hudson, but back in the ’70s it was Hawn turning all the heads on the red carpet. She made herself known in the ’60s on Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In but the ’70s saw a surge in her career that saw her in movies like The Heist, The Sugarland Express and Foul Play. By the ’80s everyone was clamouring to work with the blonde beauty.
