Country Music Awards 2018: Best And Worst Dressed Stars

Published on April 10, 2019. Updated April 12, 2019

The stars of the country music industry walked the red carpet last night at the annual Country Music Awards and there were definitely quite a few notable fashion moments — both for good and bad reasons! While some stars dressed to perfection with flowy gowns and dapper suits, some simply missed the mark. Follow along for our roundup of all the best, and admittedly, most disappointing, looks of the 2018 CMA red carpet:

29. Worst — Walker & Laney Beville Hayes

Walker and Laney Belville Hayes stepped out at the 2018 CMA awards wearing an interesting combination of ensembles. While Walker wore a relatively simple checked charcoal suit, his wife Laney opted for an overwhelming beaded look that was a little too distracting for our liking.

28. Best — Luke & Caroline Bryan

Luke Bryan and his wife Caroline absolutely dazzled at the 2018 CMA awards where they stepped out in sharp black ensembles. Caroline opted for a slinky, sparkling black number while Luke donned a crisp black tuxedo with silk lapels.

27. Worst — John Osborne & T.J. Osborne

While we appreciate that the Osborne brothers put effort into their coordination at the 2018 CMA awards, we still can’t help but feel like both their ensembles were a little too chaotic. From the clashing patterns to the variety of colors, their outfits together felt like quite the eyesore.

26. Best — Chase Rice

Chase Rice looked so dapper in this sharp navy suit at the 2018 CMA awards! The suit was tailored to perfection and he added some fun pops of color with the pale blue tie and brown leather loafers.

25. Worst — Chris Janson, Kelly Lynn

Chris Janson and Kelly Lynn walked the CMA red carpet wearing silver and black ensembles. While we actually enjoy Kelly’s beautiful sparkling gown, we can’t say the same for Chris’ look. Both his blazer jacket and trousers were buckling and wrinkling in all the wrong places and clearly were not properly tailored.

24. Best — Jordan Davis & Kristen O’Connor

Jordan Davis and Kristen O’Connor looked totally glamorous on the 2018 CMA red carpet! Kristen wore a slinky blue dress in a luxe silk material while Jordan perfectly coordinated beside her in a navy and burgundy checked suit.

23. Worst — Meghan Linsey

Country star Meghan Linsey stepped out at the CMAs this year wearing a crushed velvet look in a bright shade of blue. While we love velvet for the holiday season, we can’t say we’re huge fans of this look. The color seemed to clash with Linsey’s orange tresses and her figure got lost in the proportions of the jacket and wide-leg pants.

22. Best — Thomas Rhett

Thomas Rhett is definitely one of the most well-dressed men in the country music industry, and he proved that even further with his look for the CMAs this year. We love the luxe navy suit paired with the adorable bow tie and velvet loafers. It was a great way to prove he has a sense of style without going over the top.

21. Worst — Cassadee Pope

While Cassadee Pope’s look for the CMAs wasn’t terrible, we can’t necessarily call it a best-dressed moment either. The hemline of the dress seemed to hit her at an awkward, unflattering height and the feather and satin textures didn’t seamlessly blend the way we would have hoped.

20. Best — Kellie Pickler

Kellie Pickler was the belle of the ball when she stepped out in this golden mermaid-style dress on the CMA’s red carpet. The look fit her like a glove and showed off her hourglass figure and tiny waist flawlessly. We love the high-fashion layering of the skirt and the bow detail along the shoulder.

19. Worst — Jimmie Allen

Jimmie Allen stepped onto the red carpet in a funky patterned suit combo that definitely had all eyes on him — but we’re not sure whether it was for the right reasons! We love when men take a risk with their fashion, but Allen’s look simply didn’t flow. From the patterned suit to the velvet lapels to the baseball cap, this look was questionable to say the least.

18. Best — Mackenzie Foy

Mackenzie Foy was a refreshing breath of elegance on the CMA red carpet this year! Typically country music stars opt for sparkle or embellishment, but Foy kept it classy with a light pink jacquard dress that featured soft silver beading and a feathered hemline.

17. Best — Danielle Bradbery

Former The Voice contestant Danielle Bradbery stunned on the CMA red carpet where she stepped out in this shimmering mermaid-inspired gown. We love the criss-cross detailing of the bodice and fringe sleeves of this look. She appeared polished and classy but still glitzy, which was the perfect balance for an event like the CMAs.

16. Worst — Olivia Culpo

The beautiful Olivia Culpo is typically one of the best-dressed women at every awards show she attends, but we have to admit we were quite disappointed with the look she wore for this year’s CMA awards. The completely sheer look seemed quite bold for the typically elegant and modest Culpo and we would have much preferred to see her wear something a little more sophisticated and high-fashion.

15. Best — Lady Antebellum

Lady Antebellum always attends the red carpet as a group, and we love to see the different ways in which they coordinate their outfits. This year, they opted for the classic route with an all-black color scheme. Their outfits looked perfect as the group posed beside each other, which is a detail many country music groups tend to overlook and end up clashing.

14. Worst — Jon Pardi

Jon Pardi stepped onto the CMA red carpet wearing an embellished suit and unbuttoned shirt that undeniably turned heads. While embellished blazers and suits are definitely a common trend in the country music industry, we love the classy direction many of the men in the industry have instead shifted towards. Hopefully Pardi jumps on this bandwagon in the future!

13. Best — Kacey Musgraves

Many were on the fence about whether Kacey Musgraves look was classy or tacky, but we have to admit that we loved it! This look was undeniably risky, but we believe it was well-rewarded. Musgraves stood out because her look was different than the sea of gowns, but it was totally sophisticated with the well tailored pants, sheer top and bright red lip.

12. Worst — Lucas Hoge

Lucas Hoge had all eyes on him on the CMA red carpet with this white flower-embellished tuxedo blazer. This was another man that we wish had opted for something a little more sophisticated and classy when it came to formal red carpet dressing!

11. Best — Maren Morris

Maren Morris has had both hits and misses on the red carpet this year, but luckily, her look for the 2018 CMAs was a win in our books. We love the soft sparkle texture and strategically placed cutouts. It was attention-seeking and eye-catching, but not over the top, which is the key to a winning red carpet look.

10. Worst — Morgan Wallen

Morgan Wallen definitely had quite a few fans puzzled with his bizarre red carpet look this year. His suit jacket had a lot going on from the flannel print to the denim detailing and bedazzled lapels. Wallen had all eyes on him when he walked the CMA red carpet, but it was definitely not for the right reasons!

9. Best — Lauren Alaina

Lauren Alaina was one of the few country music stars to step out on the red carpet in a ballgown-inspired look, and we love her for it! While some may argue her look was overly formal for the CMAs, we truly believe that it’s way better to overdress than underdress. We love the dainty embellishment of the skirt and criss-cross detailing along the bust. A true Princess moment!

8. Worst — TK McKamy

TK McKamy stepped onto the CMA red carpet wearing a pink, satin, polka-dotted suit and the questionable fashion moment definitely had quite a few fans scratching their heads. While we love luxe satin pieces and polka dots, we’re not sure this look was a risk well rewarded and came across a little tacky and effortful.

7. Best — Kelsea Ballerini

Kelsea Ballerini had all eyes on her when she stepped out onto the red carpet in this show-stopping neon pink dress. The look grabbed attention with ease, which is exactly why we admire it! The number fit her like a glove and we especially love the high-fashion detailing on the sleeves.

6. Worst — Bebe Rexha

While Bebe Rexha’s look for the CMAs wasn’t entirely awful, it also wasn’t one of our favorites. Full sequins is a difficult trend to pull off and we’re not sure she rocked them in the best way possible. Her dress simply seemed to get lost in the sea of other gowns and had nothing about it that made a statement or was memorable.

5. Best — Kimberly Williams-Paisley

Kimberly Williams-Paisley looked flawless on the CMA red carpet this year where she stepped out wearing this sleek and sophisticated white gown. She put all the country music sparkle and embellishment to shame by proving that sometimes the simple, classy route can end up stealing the show.

4. Worst — Jennifer Nettles

Feathers is a huge trend this holiday season, but Jennifer Nettles definitely missed the mark with the style at this year’s CMA Awards. Rather than a feathered hemline or skirt, Nettles opted for a sheer blush dress with sporadic puffs of feathers throughout. Her look was definitely not one of our favorites, to say the least!

3. Best — Lauren Akins

Lauren Akins looked elegant and glamorous on the arm of her beau Thomas Rhett at this year’s CMA Awards! We love the modest ruffled detailing on her skirt and this rich, magenta color looks seriously stunning with her dirty blonde hair.

2. Worst — RaeLynn

RaeLynn’s look for this year’s CMAs was undeniably one of the most disappointing of the entire event. While we love ruffles, we’re not sure this was the right way to go about the trend. The giant pink ruffle overwhelmed her body and hid her frame, which was an unfortunate fashion miss in our books.

1. Best — Carrie Underwood

The best-dressed star of the entire evening was the ever-elegant Carrie Underwood! She stepped onto the red carpet cradling her budding baby bump, wearing a fully embellished floral dress that was seriously stunning. We love all intricacy and detail of her look and it was clear that she had a stunning pregnancy glow the entire evening!
