‘Big Bang Theory’ Stars Mayim Bialik And Jim Parsons’ Comedy ‘Call Me Kat’ Ordered At Fox

Fox announced on Monday, May 11, that it officially picked up a new comedy series, Call Me Kat, from Big Bang Theory‘s Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik, who portrayed Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler on the series.

Bialik will serve as executive produce as well as star in the new series as the titular character. Bialik’s Kat is a 39-year-old woman who is struggling with society and her own mother to prove you cannot have everything you want and still be happy. This is why Kat chooses to spend the money her parents set aside for her wedding on opening a cat café in Louisville, Kentucky.

Jim Parsons and his producing partner and husband Todd Spiewak have signed on to executive produce Call Me Kat. At this time, there is no mention of Parsons appearing on the new series. Other confirmed cast members for the new comedy series include Leslie Jordan, Swoozie Kurtz, and Kyla Pratt. Darlene Hunt from The Big Bang Theory will serve as the series’ showrunner.

Call Me Kat, which was being filmed in Los Angeles at the time of the industry-wide production shutdown, is a co-production between Fox Entertainment and Warner Bros. TV, where Parsons’ production company is also based.

The Big Bang Theory ended its 12-season run on CBS last year and became one of television’s most-watched comedies, so Fox picking up Bialik and Parsons’ new series seemed like a no-brainer.
