With Supernatural wrapping up with is upcoming 15th season, the stars have to move in a new direction for the first time in 15 years, and Jared Padalecki already has a major TV role lined up following his turn as Sam Winchester.

It has been confirmed that the 37-year-old has been cast as Cordell Walker in CBS TV Studios’ Walker, Texas Ranger reboot Walker. The series is a reimagining of the original series starring Chuck Norris in the lead role that aired from 1993 to 2001. Cordell Walker is described as “a man finding his way back to his family while investigating crime in the state’s most elite unit. Our broken widower and father of two returns home to Austin after being undercover for two years for a high profile case – only to discover that there’s even more work to be done at home. In a nod to the original series, Walker and his new partner — one of the only women in Texas Rangers’ history — are the modern day heroes our world needs, following their own moral code to fight for what’s right, regardless of the rules.”

Although the project is currently in development, it has yet to find a network.

Padalecki will star in the final 20 episodes of Supernatural, which premiered in 2005, before the longrunning series comes to an end in the spring of 2020.

Executive producers Robert Singer and Andrew Dabb released the following statement about the show ending: “Firstly, we would like to thank all the people who have been involved with the show both in front of and behind the camera. For us it has been an experience of a lifetime. The support we have had from both Warner Bros Television and The CW has been incredible. We’d like to give special thanks to Jensen, Jared and Misha for making this journey so special. It is now most important to us to give these characters that we love the send off they deserve.”
