The 2020 Primetime Emmy Awards will be moving forward and Jimmy Kimmel is hosting!

The 2020 Primetime Emmy Awards were previously scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 20, but it’s unclear whether this will be rescheduled due to ongoing global health and safety concerns.

Details of the event are still to be released, but one thing’s for certain: Jimmy Kimmel will be the host. He shared a statement on Tuesday confirming the news, “I don’t know where we will do this or how we will do this or even why we are doing this, but we are doing it and I am hosting it.”

Karey Burke, the President of ABC Entertainment, also released a statement confirming their decision to have Jimmy as a host. “We know Jimmy Kimmel will deliver a uniquely entertaining, funny and moving Primetime Emmys show,” said Burke.

“He’s a true master of ceremonies who reveres this industry and its people; and just as Jimmy has done with his own show over the past few months, he will tackle this momentous event with heart and humor, and bring some much-needed joy and optimism to our television colleagues and viewers at home.”

The 2020 Emmys will mark Kimmel’s third time hosting the awards show. He previously led the 64th and 68th Emmy Awards in 2012 and 2016.

Many other awards shows have released details of postponement, but the Emmys seem to be continuing on as usual for now. The Oscars and the BAFTAs have even already pushed back its 2021 dates by several months.

As for now, the 72nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will be broadcast live Sunday, Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
