In the 2002 romantic drama, an adaption of Nicholas Sparks’ novel of the same name, Moore’s character Jamie Sullivan sings the ballad to West’s character Landon Carter during a school play. In that moment, Landon realizes he’s in love with Jamie and impromptu kisses her. However, for Moore, the scene was also one to remember for other reasons. “The most memorable scene for me is the school play and singing the song ‘Only Hope,'” she told Entertainment Weekly back in 2017 for A Walk To Remember‘s 15-year anniversary. “I remember putting on that beautiful ice blue, silk dress and everyone fawning all over it. It was the first time that I wasn’t in a ratty sweater and an oversized housedress.”

Though “Only Hope” was originally performed by Switchfoot, Moore’s rendition of the song in A Walk To Remember popularized the song in the early 2000s.

On Twitter, fans were fawning over Moore’s performance and reminiscing over the days when they first watched the flick.

“I’m 12 again. I’m in love with Landon. I’m only gonna marry a man who gets a star named after me. Life was good,” one person wrote. “I love this!! Beautiful then and now!!” another added. “Mandy, her voice, the movie & this song. Always felt she never got the recognition she deserved at the time,” a different fan said.
