Prince Harry will not be wearing his military uniform to the upcoming funeral of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth.
A spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex share with PEOPLE that he “will wear a morning suit throughout events honoring his grandmother.”
“His decade of military service is not determined by the uniform he wears, and we respectfully ask that focus remain on the life and legacy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II,” the spokesperson added.
Prince Harry served in the British Army for 10 years and was deployed to Afghanistan twice. He lost his three honorary military titles when he and his wife Meghan Markle stepped back from their senior royal roles in March 2020.
Buckinham Palace confirmed on Friday that only members of the working royal family who hold military rank will wear military uniforms to the five major ceremonial events leading up to and including the Queen’s state funeral.
King Charles III, Prince William, Princess Anne and Prince Edward are expected to wear traditional regalia for the mourning events, however, the Queen’s son Prince Andrew and Prince Harry will not since they are no longer senior working royals.
