Wednesday, March 16 will forever be in the memory of country icon Reba McEntire and this year she took to her Instagram to share a post remembering the day of the tragic plane crash that killed many of her bandmates.

This year marked the 25th anniversary of the horrible accident and the 60-year-old star took to her Instagram to share a tribute post for those who died that day. She posted a black and white photo of herself staring out from a helicopter window, along with the caption, “Today is the 25th anniversary of the airplane crash. I went back to San Diego Nov of last year and took a helicopter to the crash site. I feel in my heart that they know we still miss them so much. My love and prayers to all the families and friends.”

Back in March of 1991, tragedy struck McEntire’s road band when one of their private jets crashed only minutes after take off in Sand Diego after they had packed up and took off after playing a set. The jet was carrying seven members of her band as well as her tour manager and crashed into the side of Otay Mountain after clipping an outcropping of rock near the peak. The deceased were guitarist Chris Austin, singer Paula Kaye Evans, bassist Terry Jackson, bandleader Kirk Cappello, guitarist Michael Thomas, drummer Tony Saputo, keyboardist Joey Cigainero, and tour manager Jim Hammon as well as the two pilots Donald Holms and Chris Hollinger.

McEntire had opted to not take the flight with the band after her then husband Narvel Blackstock convinced her to spend the night in San Diego to get a good nights rest.

Today is the 25th anniversary of the airplane crash. I went back to San Diego Nov of last year and took a helicopter up to the crash site. I feel in my heart that they know we still miss them so much. My love and prayers to all the families and friends.
