The Reason Behind The Big Bang Theory’s Cancellation Revealed
Published on August 23, 2018. Updated May 22, 2019After many questions about when CBS would decide to end its all-time best comedy, The Big Bang Theory, an answer has finally arrived.
On Wednesday, August 22, it was revealed that CBS and Warner Bros. TV had come to the decision to end The Big Bang Theory in 2019 after season 12.
“We are forever grateful to our fans for their support of The Big Bang Theory during the past twelve seasons. We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show’s success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring The Big Bang Theory to an epic creative close,” the statement read.
After the news broke that season 12 would be the last for the record-breaking series, it was then revealed what prompted the abrupt decision after it seemed as though CBS was trying to negotiate for at least two more years of the show. According to Entertainment Weekly, the decision to end the series was because star Jim Parsons was ready to say goodbye to the show. As one of the most pivotal characters on the show playing Dr. Sheldon Cooper, the network didn’t even want to entertain trying to continue on and finish the series without him which resulted in the season 12 cancellation. Parsons rep did not comment on the reports.
“We spent thousands of days, literally, in the same room together as a unit, as a family. So to not wake up and not have that to go to is going to be very jarring, I’m sure,” Johnny Galecki who plays Leonard in the series, told Us Weekly in March. “I hope they write something emotional, because I know we’re all gonna be crying anyway. So you might as well make it appropriate! Capture that on camera, write that to be conducive to the fact that we’re all gonna be blubbering messes that night,” he said of what he hopes for the finale.
