The Young And The Restless Celebrates Peter Bergman’s 30th Anniversary

Published on November 18, 2019.

The Young And The Restless (Y&R) will present a special stand-alone episode honoring Peter Bergman’s 30th anniversary portraying Jack Abbott, on November 25.

“It’s been a real joy for me, to retrace Jack’s footsteps over the last 30 years,” Bergman said in a statement.  “I am struck by the enduring friendships I have made at Y&R, and deeply grateful to our fans, who have stood by Jack, cheered him on, or waited patiently for him to get his act together…for three decades!  I’m happy, amazed and truly thankful…and it sure feels good. Thank you one and all.”

The Y&R recently released a sneak peek of the special episode. Jack makes a toast about how proud he is that he and his sister Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) have finished writing their book about the Abbott family. Alongside him in the preview is his niece Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway), sister Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) and mother Dina Mergeron (Marla Adams).

“I want to commemorate this moment. Writing this book was my idea. I personally have learned so much from it. I look at my mother and my sister and my niece, my brother, and my son, and I feel our shared family history,” Jack says, with tears in his eyes. ”I feel this connection through John and Dina Abbott. They have shaped all of our lives. I just want each of you to know how very special you are to me.”

The episode will also feature classic Y&R clips to honor Bergman’s rich history on the soap, including Jack’s many relationships with women like Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott), Jill Foster (Jess Walton), Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) and Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford). It will also highlight his business dealings running Jabot Cosmetics, his fierce rivalry with Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) over the years and his relationship with his late father John Abbott (Jerry Douglas).

Bergman took over the role of Jack from Terry Lester in 1989. Before he joined the Y&R cast, he played Dr. Cliff Warner on All My Children for 10 years. While portraying Jack during the past 30 years he’s taken home four Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Stay tuned to Y&R to see this very special episode on November 25.
