This Is Us Cast Reveals How They Kept Jack’s Death A Secret Until Season Two
Published on October 10, 2017.The This Is Us cast are certainly great at keeping secrets!
The season two premiere bombshell about Jack’s death left fans shocked and wondering how the cast kept such a big secret under wraps. The final scene of the premiere episode features Rebecca bringing Jack home after their explosive fight. She pulls up to their home and a flashback takes over the screen which features Rebecca driving with Jack’s belongings in a plastic bag and the house in the background charred to the ground.
Mandy Moore recently opened up about the devastating moment and revealed the cast used a code word to keep the secret between them. “I hope [creator] Dan Fogelman’s OK with it!” Moore revealed on Today. “We called it ‘the marble’…It was like, ‘So then when the marble happens…’ Listen, we’ve all been holding onto this secret for a year and a half now.”
Apparently the code word was only one of the precautions the cast took to keep their secret! Moore revealed that the producers built the charred house an hour and a half outside of Los Angeles in case someone was tracking them. They also changed the This is Us set to a “completely different word to throw people off.” Moore added, “I was like I have never been a part of something like this before.”
The big reveal was also a relief for Milo Ventimiglia, who plays Jack. “Thank God, man,” Milo gushed over the reveal. “Just thank God, thank you.” He added that he was growing tired of having people ask him the question. “When, how, why, there’s so many versions of it and sides of it and it’s hard not to take any of it personally or internalize it and be like, ‘Wow, man, people just want to see me dead,'” he joked.
Although the season two premiere gave a lot of insight into the ongoing question of Jack’s death. it’s clear that this is just the begining of the story!
This is Us airs Tuesdays at 9 pm on NBC.
