7 Singers Who Hate Their Hit Songs

Published on August 1, 2017.

Sometimes it doesn’t matter if a song is a smash hit, the singer who recorded it just doesn’t like it. These singers all had major problems with one of their hit songs and, while some them were able to get it over, others never want to hear it again! Here are 7 singers who hate their hit songs:

7. Lady Gaga –Telephone

Lady Gaga has said that she hates her song “Telephone” and she’s also said that she hates the song’s music video as well! “I can’t even watch the Telephone video, I hate it so much. Beyonce and I are great together,” she told Time Out magazine. “But there are so many ideas in that video and all I see in that video is my brain throbbing with ideas and I wish I had edited myself a little bit more.”

6. Lorde – Royals

Lorde is not a fan of her hit song “Royals.” “I listen to people covering the song and putting their own spin on it, and I listen to it in every single form except the one I put out…and I realize that actually it sounds horrible!  It sounds like a ringtone from a 2006 Nokia! None of the melodies are cool or good! It’s disastrous. Awful… But for some reason, in the context of the way I released it, it just worked,” she told the Daily Record.

5. Justin Bieber – Beauty and a Beat

Justin Bieber revealed that he cannot stand the song, “Beauty and a Beat,” which he recorded with Nicki Minaj. “I never really liked “Beauty and a Beat,”” he admitted on Bert Weiss’ radio show. “But I understood what it was at the time. And it was music that was popular at that time, as well. But I was never really a huge fan of that song.”

4. Miley Cyrus – Wrecking Ball

Miley Cyrus is sick of her video for “Wrecking Ball” and we can totally see why! “That’s something you can’t take away, swinging around naked on a wrecking ball lives forever. Once you do that… it’s forever. I’m never living that down. I will always be the naked girl on the wrecking ball,” she said on The Zach Sang Show. “That’s my worst nightmare… that being played at my funeral.”

3. Selena Gomez – Come & Get It

Selena Gomez’s single “Come & Get It” was her first top ten entry to the Billboard Hot 100, but she’s not a fan of it. “I love Stargate more than anything, but it’s very difficult for me to perform live. It’s not my song. To me, it sounds like a Rihanna reject. I’m currently in the middle of figuring out what it’s going to sound like. I’m working with Stargate on the new album—they did ‘Same Old Love’ with me—and we’ve created such an awesome relationship. That was just in the beginning. I was so young. I was wanting a hit: ‘I don’t know if I need a hit, but maybe I do so people can respect me?’ I’m grateful what [‘Come & Get It’] did for me, so it’d be stupid not to acknowledge it,” she told Entertainment Weekly.

2. Celine Dion – My Heart Will Go On

“My Heart Will Go On” is arguably Celine Dion’s biggest hit, but she didn’t even want to record a demo of it at first. “I didn’t want to sing My Heart Will Go On…thank God they didn’t listen to me! I didn’t really like the song at first,” she said on The Jonathan Ross Show. “And [my husband René Angélil] said, ‘Let’s just do a demo, let’s give it a try and we’ll see after.’ The demo is actually the real recording, I never sang the song again…well, except three million times after that live.”

1. Mandy Moore – Candy

Mandy Moore doesn’t just hate one of her songs – she hates her first two albums! “Ugh, those were awful–just awful!” she told Glamour magazine. “If I had the money, I would give a refund to everyone who bought my first two albums. Whenever people ask, ‘Which of your albums should I listen to?’ I say, ‘Nothing but “Coverage” [an album of cover songs]. Burn the rest!’”
