Soap Opera Storylines That Need To End In 2022

There’s nothing like a great soap opera storyline filled with twists and turns at every corner. Whether it’s a baby swap, romance, spy adventure, or rivalry, these can keep fans on the edges of their seats. With that said, some arcs seem to drag on and last forever. On the cusp of a new year, below are some soap opera storylines many fans wish would just end in 2022.

12. Recycled Romances

This is a trend that occurs across the board on soap operas. From The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R’s) Phyllis, Nick and Jack storyline to Days of Our Lives’ (DOOL’s) love triangles of Chloe, Brady and Philip, as well as EJ, Nicole, and Sami, surely there are other pairings that these shows can explore. Maybe it’s time to add some new characters into the small towns across daytime drama?

11. The Devil Has To Stop

Speaking of Days, Sami recently chimed in on Marlena’s possession, and the words continue to ring in the ears of DOOL fans everywhere! “I thought it was like the chickenpox. I thought it could only happen to you once.” Ms. DiMera’s not wrong… how can this type of evil lightning strike twice? Now, it’s been a fun walk down memory lane, and in many ways, the Devil 2.0 has been nostalgic; however, here’s hoping the storyline doesn’t drag on like it did in the 1990s.

10. Please Stop Peter August For Good (Or At Least For Now…)

Can General Hospital’s (GH’s) Peter suffer the same fate as Jason? Can everyone at least think he’s passed away for a while, or can he finally get locked up for good (or for now)? He can always “come back to life” or escape imprisonment, right? It took forever and a day for the truth around August’s lies to come out. He’s an incredibly intriguing scoundrel, but he does need some time off-canvas.

9. Rey Versus Adam

Are any other fans sick of the Rey versus Adam rivalry on Y&R? Sharon’s still with Rosales, and Newman is off trying to destroy Billy Abbott and Chance Comm. At this point, these two shouldn’t have scenes together at all. The underlying hints that Adam remains the “elephant in the room” for the “Shey” relationship are exhausting. Either Rey needs to dump Sharon or live with the fact that they will always remain in each other’s orbit. Perhaps “moving forward” from their quarrel would be a nice New Year’s resolution for both men.

8. Billy Versus Adam

There are so many people in Genoa City who don’t like Y&R’s Adam, it’s ridiculous. With that said, this rivalry stems from Delia’s passing, and it’s unhealthy for both Adam and Billy to continue on. Billy has battled demons in the past, thanks to Mr. Newman, and as a father, Adam needs to back off already. Hasn’t he done enough to hurt Billy? Watching the drama unfold between Chance Comm and Newman Media lately has been interesting; however, at times, Adam and Billy’s rivalry seems like a never-ending storyline. Will these two ever go their separate ways, or will they follow in the footsteps of Jack and Victor?

7. Far-Reaching Family Roots

Sometimes, unknown family connections can be intriguing in the land of soaps. Other times, it can be ridiculous. How could it be that Finn was adopted, but Jack ended up being his biological father on The Bold and the Beautiful (B&B)? All of a sudden, Paulina is Lani’s mom on Days? Ms. Wu is related to Brad on GH? If Mr. Cooper had connections to the mob, how did he end up in jail, and why hasn’t anyone cared to help him out until now?

6. Just Get On With It, Already!

Can GH’s Finn and Elizabeth get together already? She’s a widow who lost the love of her life; however, this is also a soap opera where many characters have moved on (and probably would’ve already). That may sound insensitive, but it’s more about seeing these two finally come together. While on the topic, can writers finally get Valentin and Anna to move forward with their romance, too?

5. Hayden’s Shooting

Speaking of GH, can Nikolas get nabbed for Hayden’s shooting already? It’s been years in the making! Now that the storyline has re-emerged on the canvas, it’s time to expose Cassadine (although this has already happened… sort of…), so he can pay for what he’s done. Will he slip away from this again, scot-free?

4. Kristen’s Great Escape

It’s natural for characters to pop in and out of Salem, and DOOL’s Kristen DiMera is no exception. Still, how is it she’s been able to escape jail so many times in 2021? Surely, she can land back in Pentonville for her next hiatus. The storyline around her slipping through Salem PD’s fingers needs to come to a close. It’s getting beyond ridiculous at this point.

3. Secrets From Nixon Falls

GH’s Sonny finally came home, but there’s still the business of exposing exactly what he did in Nixon Falls with Nina. These two were far from “just friends”, and while it’s great to see Corinthos in the land of the living, it would be even nicer to see Carly brought fully into the loop.

2. Chelsea’s Obsession With Adam

As of this writing, Y&R’s fans probably know that Chelsea is on her way back to Genoa City, just in time for the holidays. After everything Adam has put her through, and everything she’s done to get back on her feet, it would be awful if she came back just to pick up a storyline where she was vying for Mr. Newman’s attention. They have a child together but Lawson’s obsession with Adam ends up making her look pathetic. She is a strong character and should move on to a new relationship. Here’s hoping any lingering feelings Chelsea had for Adam escaped with her when she left town earlier in 2021.

1. How Long Will Sarah Be Stuck On The Island For?

Where is DOOL’s Sarah, and when is she coming back to Salem? Even Sami’s hostage situation was exposed in less time than Horton’s kidnapping by Kristen. How has Maggie (or any of her family) not clued into Sarah’s disappearance? Is Horton okay? Is she at least on a tropical island, enjoying some sun, sand and waves? Does she even know who or where she is? Days fans need answers… but, just as much, they need this storyline to end soon!
