6 Worst Dressed Stars At The 2015 Video Music Awards

Published on August 31, 2015.

The 2015 Video Music Awards were highly anticipated for many reasons, but mostly because it is one awards show that has not followed the rules when it comes to being polite and taking it easy on the sensors. It was very clear that MTV was aiming for the shock factor when they named polarizing and controversial 22-year-old popstar Miley Cyrus as the host. As was expected, Cyrus donned next to nothing for many of her outfits and it all started on the red carpet where many stars took full advantage of the “barely-there” trend that has taken over in fashion. If it wasn’t a baring-all look, than it was some other sort of wackiness that dominated the outfits of the red carpet, leading to quite a list of “what was that?!” moments before the stars even entered the Microsoft Theater and took the stage.

6. Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber had himself quite the weekend. The Canadian popstar released his new single “What Do You Mean?” on Friday, August 29th and then took to the VMAs on Sunday to perform his new hit, and apparently it was so powerful it reduced him to tears. What we’re crying about though is his ridiculous red carpet style. While his ripped jeans, button up and leather jacket did him no favors, it was his floppy hairstyle that really made it go from bad to worse. What do you mean you can’t afford a stylist Justin?

5. Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift often finds herself near the top of best dressed lists whether it be for her red carpet looks, street style or concert outfits; however, the same could not be said for her VMAs red carpet fashion. Swift often does a matching crop-top and bottom, but this was definitely her worst. The “Bad Blood” singer and winner of three awards that night decided on a metallic houndstooth crop-top with matching pants by Ashish and we can’t figure out why.

4. Britney Spears

Britney Spears has been a head turner at events for quite awhile now and, while we love her, unfortunately she is usually turning heads for all the wrong reasons. Many were shocked by the 33 year olds outfit choice at the Teen Choice Awards and her VMAs pick was not much better. Spears donned a silver and gold minidress, which was not only belly baring but also had side cuts and seemed a bit small in the chest area, resulting in an awkward (not sexy) push-up. Cut her some slack though, we figure her time in Vegas has influenced her style choices.

3. Amber Rose and Blac Chyna

Always dying for attention, it wasn’t surprising that best friends Amber Rose and Blac Chyna arrived at the VMAs ready to make a statement, but what was surprising was they weren’t saying it with their mouths. Rose wore a beige bodysuit and Chyna wore a beige dress, both of which were covered in a graffiti of sexist words such as “stripper,” “wh-re” and “b-tch.” Although intended to bring attention to “slut-shaming,” it is also unfortunate that Rose uses it to make sure attention stays on her and of course, Chyna, as the two will soon have their own reality show that they don’t want anyone to forget about.

2. Rita Ora

Always one to take advantage of cleavage baring styles, Rita Ora matched the worst of the “barely-there” trend with the worst of “Black Swan” inspired gowns to wind up in this ensemble. The deep plunging neckline and V-style top looked ready for a dramatic “nip-slip” moment at any time. While she is undeniably gorgeous and can rock the best look of the night at any time, this feathered frock was just an unfortunate pick, and while there were some bad outfits on the red carpet, this one just stood out too much to be overlooked.

1. Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus had a lot of horrible outfits throughout the night; however, horrible style seems to be her thing, which means it shouldn’t be surprising she claims the top spot. She surprsingly wasn’t wearing pasties for her red carpet arrival, but she wasn’t wearing anything better either. Cyrus left nothing to the imagine in an “metallic-alien” look donning thigh high silver boots, a crystal “skirt” and metallic suspenders, and that is it. Yup, a lot of Miley was on display as per usual and, as per usual, it was unnecessary and awkward.
