Kate Middleton’s 15 Best And Worst Fashion Moments Of 2017
Published on December 22, 2017.The Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton is undeniably one of the most well-dressed women of the decade. She consistently steps out looking refined and put together and seems to own an endless wardrobe of polished pieces and designer shoes. As a royal, it’s important to look professional and Kate Middleton does just that, however, there were a few moments in 2017 where we admittedly questioned her choice of attire! Along with the good, inevitably always comes a few bad. Follow along as we recount 15 of Kate Middleton’s best and worst dressed moments of 2017:

Earlier this year in February Kate Middleton stepped out wearing this striking rich blue suit by Rebecca Taylor! The tweed look was ultra-polished with its tailored structure and lapel details but still mixed in trendy elements with fringe detailing. For the visit to Ronald McDonald House, Middleton swept her hair into a half-up hairstyle and paired the look with matching navy heels and a dark clutch. A tailored power suit like this tends to be quite typical for the Duchess, but this rich shade of blue really made this a standout style moment.

Kate Middleton most often opts for solid colors and monochrome sets, which makes the moments that she chooses a patterned garment even more apparent! This particular look was muted and modest in color but the bird print was difficult to overlook. We would have much preferred a darker floral or classy polka dot. To make matters worse, the Duchess added a belt which seemed overwhelming in combination with the busy print. Her shoes seemed also a strange choice for the polished Duchess who always opts for a simple nude or black pointed toe pump.

Kate Middleton rarely appears at red carpet events, but when she does it is most definitely a remarkable fashion moment! In 2017, Middleton attended the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards wearing a stunning off-the-shoulder Alexander McQueen gown. The striking garment showed a little skin within modesty for a royal and featured a full tiered skirt that swept the floor. For jewelry, the Duchess wore a cuffed diamond bracelet on her wrist and a stunning pair of oversized sparkling earrings that are much different than the typical minimalistic jewelry she opts for. The gown showed off her slender figure and despite being a busy print, the dark floral look came across extremely elegant and graceful.

The Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton attended the opening of 42nd Street at the West End wearing a crimson Marchesa design this past April. Although the color flattered the Duchess’ dark features, we’re not completely convinced about the length of this dress. The full skirt hits her at an awkward height above the ankle which didn’t flatter her figure. The mesh detailing also seemed a strange and harsh choice for Kate who more often opts for softer tweed or romantic lace. Despite this, she accessorized flawlessly with a monochrome burgundy palette on her earrings, shoes, and clutch.

Kate Middleton has proved to be the absolute queen of crisp, clean fashion, and this particular look is a prime example of that! She stepped out in Belgium this past July wearing a sleek Alexander McQueen coat dress that was tailored perfectly to her body. She wore a poppy and a pearl brooch on her lapel that matched perfectly with her earrings and classic British fascinator. For shoes, Middleton wore a pair of Gianvito Rossi grey pumps which that tied the look together and looked perfect with the dainty pearl detailing of her other accessories.

Kate Middleton can seemingly pull off any color under the rainbow, but this particular yellow dress caught us off guard! The look wasn’t entirely awful and definitely flattered her figure, but unfortunately the combination of the high neckline, cap sleeves, and doily print seemed a little too outdated. A good lace dress is an undeniable classic, but this yellow dress aged her and just didn’t seem to be one of her better looks.

Kate Middleton stepped out earlier this year in May wearing a powder blue Emilia Wickstead coat dress that was absolutely stunning! The color was straight out of Cinderella and flattered her dark features and fair complexion perfectly. The flared skirt and cinched waist perfectly showed off Middleton’s slender figure and still looked polished and professional with the lapel detailed collar. She paired the look with dainty earrings, a simple nude clutch, and matching pumps.

During Kate Middleton’s wedding back in 2011, her sister Pippa stole the show with her sleek white bridesmaid dress. Unfortunately, the same did not happen for Pippa’s wedding when Kate stood by her side as a bridesmaid. The blush-colored dress Kate wore to the wedding seemed to drape in all the wrong places and featured outdated bubble sleeves and pleats that were not flattering by any means. The rose hue was soft and pretty, but the shape and texture was, unfortunately, a big miss.

The Duchess stepped out this past summer wearing a striking Catherine Walker number that was undeniably one of her best looks of the year! The cobalt blue color perfectly coordinated with Prince William’s look and definitely turned heads with its rich shade. The three button detail at her waist added a nice extra touch of detail and the 3/4 length sleeves were perfect for a warmer July afternoon. She swept her hair into a sleek low updo and wore a silver watch and dainty crystal earrings as accessories. For shoes, she kept it neutral with her go-to Gianvito Rossi nude pointed-toe pumps.

Kate Middleton definitely meant well with this look, especially because it was her first appearance since announcing her third pregnancy, but unfortunately it was just not one of her best. The powder blue gown was undeniably a nice color in contrast with her dark features, but the doily-inspired sleeves and strange black bow detailing seemed to clash. We love the slight shimmer of the gown but just wish the sleeves and neckline were sleeker and less outdated.

Kate Middleton stunned this past June when she stepped out in this Gucci tweed dress at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. The tweed texture was classic and a go-to for Middleton but the pops of red were super trendy and unique. For accessories, she paired the dress with a bright red clutch and simple black pumps. This look was quite different than anything we’ve seen Kate in and she pulled it off flawlessly which marks this as one of her best fashion moments of 2017.

4. Worst — November 28, 2017
Kate Middleton stepped out recently near the end of November wearing this polka-dotted number while visiting The Foundling Museum in London. Although the Kate Spade dress is flowy and feminine, it also seemed quite outdated and overly matronly. We love seeing Kate in a fit and flare gown, but this combination of the collar, button-up front, and strange striped hemlines didn’t pair well together. The color did nothing for her complexion and we’d have much preferred to see Kate in something tailored and bright.

Kate Middleton’s beaded silver number that she wore to the British Embassy in Paris for a dinner with Prince William was undeniably one of her best looks of year, and possibly of all time! The look featured a silky powder blue slip dress that was covered by a sheer layer of bejeweled tulle. The shimmery dress was sleek, slim and had the perfect amount of sparkling embellishment to stand out without being too much. The number was unique and unlike anything we’ve previously seen Kate wear which definitely made this fashion moment stand out as a 2017 favorite.

The Duchess stepped out this past October wearing an unexpected athletic look that definitely caught us by surprise! It’s difficult to judge a look this casual in comparison to her designer dresses but we can’t help but acknowledge that this was potentially one of the only times that Kate stepped out wearing a tracksuit. Despite the athletic wear, Middleton still looks polished with a white polo peaking out of her zip up, but the sneakers and track pants most definitely wasn’t her most appealing look, to say the least.

Of all her fabulous looks in 2017, this striking lavender number has got to be our all-time favorite! Although it was relatively simple, the color looked absolutely amazing with her brunette locks and dark features! To add even more glamour to the look, the entire royal family matched with varying shades of purple as they stepped off their private plane to visit the Maritime Museum in Hamburg, Germany. For accessories, Kate did something unexpected and wore a bright red bag rather than opting for her typical monochrome accessories palette. For shoes, she kept it simple with a pair of Gianvito Rossi nude pumps.
