Gossip Girl: Iconic Fashion MomentsPublished on June 16, 2017. Updated October 2, 2019
Although our beloved teen drama Gossip Girl has come to an inevitable close, the fashion moments of the hit series are way too good to pass up reminiscing about. Whether it’s their memorable decked out uniforms, designer couture gowns or everyday ensembles to stroll through Central Park, Blair and Serena quickly became TV style icons for their personalized and bold senses of fashion. Blair, tailoring towards a more sophisticated and preppy look, while Serena, opting for many alluring and sultry styles, have easily gained their spot as two of the most enviable wardrobes to ever hit television. Have you found yourself missing the on-set style of New York’s top fashionistas? Join us at Fame10 as we select our absolute favourite Blair and Serena style moments as they battled it out for the spot of ultimate it-girl on the upper east side.
10. Blair’s Citrus-Inspired Outfit
Leave it to Blair Waldorf to pull off one of the most unwearable colours – bright yellow! This queen of style looks effortlessly flawless in this citrus-inspired outfit and even incorporates other difficult colours to wear such as green and orange. Her tendency to take fashion risks, especially with color and patterns, has contributed to her status as a TV style icon. Another reason to applaud this outfit is that in typical Blair fashion, this starlet perfectly coordinates all her pieces! The tangerine coloured bag picks up on the details of the skirt and the bright platform shoes and coral lipstick are the ultimate finishing touches to this bold summer style.
9. Serena’s Black Cut-Out Style
Serena’s ultra revealing structured top was a stand-out style moment within the Gossip Girl legacy. Known for her risque and bold fashion decisions, Serena dons an all-black outfit reminiscent of a female heroine or Cat Woman in season 4. The pumped up shoulders and choker add a subtle sophistication to the look, but the plunging neckline rings true to the typical Serena style flare. Her slicked back hair, metallic clutch and T-strap pumps perfectly flatter the black ensemble by providing texture and visual interest.
8. Blair’s Wedding Guest Outfit
The magenta pink floral dress Blair wore when she attended Lilly’s wedding definitely stuck out in our minds as iconic Gossip Girl fashion! The halter neckline featured an intricate flower ruffle detail and the bubble cut of the dress was super cute and chic on Blair. Her coordinating magenta heels and clutch completed the ensemble, but not without the classic Blair-style headband to match! Only Blair could pull off looking as fabulous as the bride while attending a wedding as a guest.
7. Serena’s White Party Ensemble
With summer nearly coming to a close, the Gossip Girl crew couldn’t help but spend one more weekend in the Hamptons soaking up the summer sun. Serena’s maxi dress from the all-white party took our breath away and flattered her sun kissed skin perfectly. The ivory-coloured dress featured layers of fabric that clung to all the right places and her golden pumps looked stunning when they peaked out from beneath the dress. Her hair really stole the show in this episode as she channeled her inner Grecian goddess! The intricate updo was laced with a long silver headband that wrapped twice around the crown of her head and hung around her shoulder doubling as a necklace.
6. Blair At Prom
Who could steal the show at prom better than Queen B? Her prom style actually looked similar to something we would imagine Serena in with a black base and gold details wrapping down the side of the gown. This Marchesa gown with a full skirt and sweetheart neckline was an unexpected sultry twist for Blair, but this definitely made her stand out as the belle of the ball at prom! She did stick to her roots with a gold embroidered headband and a simple updo and we applaud her for taking a risk and pulling it off flawlessly. What high school grad do we know that could don a couture gown at prom other than Blair Waldorf?
5. Serena’s Lace Dress
The Zuhair Murad gown that Serena rocked in season 4 looked absolutely amazing on her! The gun metal grey colour paired nicely to complement her blonde tresses and the details involved on this couture gown took our breath away. The high-low hemline made her long legs stand out, but she still looking extremely elegant. The sheer lace sleeves and lace bodice pulled together with a silk-wrapped detailing at the waist flattered her figure and made this upper east sider look sexy without being too bluntly revealing.
4. Blair’s Scarlet Gown
When New York meets Paris, the fashion results are absolutely incredible. How could we possibly forget Blair’s crimson dress when meeting Chuck at the train station in Paris? The image of Blair walking towards Chuck with the cascading train on this dress gliding across the floor is a fashion moment we’ll never forget! The strapless crimson gown that was covered in flattering organza ruffles made this New York elite look like a beautiful red rose herself. She paired the gown with an unconventional fuchsia clutch and pumps, but the dramatic silhouette of this designer gown is really what left us speechless!
3. Serena’s Wedding Gown
We couldn’t talk about iconic fashion moments from Gossip Girl without mentioning the stunning wedding dresses that left us awe-struck in the season finale! Serena’s designer gown was, of course, atypical from a common all-white wedding dress but encapsulated her personality perfectly by mixing conventional tulle with metallic gold detailing. The dress was extravagant as it flourished into a voluminous tulle skirt as many brides opt for, but the sharp gold pattern and low back really made this a signature Serena style look.
2. Blair’s Wedding Gown
In similar fashion, Blair opted for a unique take on her wedding day with a powder blue number! The Elie Saab gown was long-sleeved and completely sheer with unique lace detailing around the neckline and around the hips. The gown tied with a perfect bow ribbon around the waist and Blair topped the gown with her signature hairband look featuring a delicate silver leaf design. Did we really expect the queen of fashion to wear a traditional white gown on her wedding day? Absolutely not!
1. Serena AND Blair’s Paris Street Style
Although this best friend duo battled it out on screen and on the pages of fashion magazines everywhere, we at Fame10 concluded that the ultimate style moment of the show actually featured both of the lead stars! When Blair and Serena hit the streets of Paris in the season four premiere, we gawked at their glamorous Parisian ensembles perfectly catered to both of their own individual styles. Blair donned a traditional French beret but took the Paris streets by storm in a short colourfully patterned dress. Serena’s thigh-grazing glittering gown put her on an equal playing field as Blair, especially when topped with a structured blazer and top hat! We love the fashion risks these two took on the show and despite their constant battle for queen of the upper east side, both starlets left an equal mark in our style diaries as one of the most iconic fashion duos in television history.
